I'm Just a Nerd Trying to See The World One Adventure at a Time...

Trinity College & The Book of Kells ~ Dublin, Ireland

Trinity College & The Book of Kells ~ Dublin, Ireland

Trinity College is a beautiful campus - a great place to wander around on cobblestone walkways and admire the architecture of this historic university founded in 1592. It will make you feel like you have traveled back in time. However, the main event is the library and The Book of Kells. The library at Trinity College is like no other library. It is simply remarkable. You'll be amazed at how many times you can say the word "wow" and really mean it.

The Book of Kells itself is also incredible. It was written in the 9th century and the colorful artwork is still stunning to this day. The book is encased in glass, but they have the book opened so you can see a few of the original pages through the glass. I will say that I am not a big fan of standing in long lines, parading through cramped exhibits with masses of people, just to see something and go "Ohhhhhhh and aahhhhh" over it. For me, that was how the Book of Kells felt. It's a small room full of other people, so it felt a little cramped and rushed.

The library alone was worth the €10 entry fee, so I suggest you go see the book and then spend the rest of your time meandering through the library and soaking in that old library smell!
