I'm Just a Nerd Trying to See The World One Adventure at a Time...

The Old Man of Storr

The Old Man of Storr

There are a few spots on the Isle of Skye that are extremely popular for visitors. The Old Man of Storr is one of them - in fact, it is the busiest hike on the island. On our first day on Skye, we drove past the Storr and there were literally hundreds of cars lining the street leading up to it. I can’t imagine how crowded the hike must have been with that many people.

Our plan was to wake up at 6:00 the next morning and go there right away. It is the absolute best way to give yourself a good experience here.

This is truly one of the most stunningly beautiful hikes in the world - well worth an early morning wake up to enjoy it all to yourself.

We took our time with the hike and we still only encountered one other person who was going for a run. She was on her way down when we were heading up, so we only crossed paths for a second. Other than that, we literally had the entire Storr to ourselves and it felt magical.

The landscape looks & feels like it’s out of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones - like hobbits & dragons are hiding behind every corner.

It’s a single path to the top and back down to the parking lot - about 2.5 miles total. It’s mostly uphill on the way up. It can be a steep hike in some places and some of the path is loose gravel so it might not be a hike for everyone. The hike back down is obviously easier. The Isle of Skye website has a really great breakdown of the hike so you can get an idea of what to expect and if it’s a hike you’d want to do.

The views from this hike are some of the most spectacular in Scotland. So if you’re up for a medium / moderately difficult hike, then this is one to do.

Adventure Always.
