I'm Just a Nerd Trying to See The World One Adventure at a Time...

The Blackfriar ~ London

The Blackfriar ~ London

We had tickets to see Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare's Globe Theater one night and had some time free beforehand - so needless to say we went to a pub for some drinks and a bite to eat!  We went with The Blackfriar - a cute corner pub with a nice patio that was just across the Thames from the Globe. You can't walk a block in London without coming across a pub or two so you'll have no shortage of options for where to grab a pint and a bite, but if you come across The Blackfriar, it is worth a visit.

It was a beautiful evening so we chose to sit outside on the patio.  It's a quintessential British pub full of charm and a great ambiance - the perfect spot to relax with a pint or two.  We arrived early in the evening - probably around 5:00 - and we were able to grab the last table on the patio.  So it's probably best to get there early if you don't want to wait for a table.  The inside also had some really cute tables tucked away so if the patio is full, check inside!

Side note for my fellow Americans ... when eating at a pub in England, you will place your order with the bartender and pay for it upon ordering.  Someone will then bring your food to your table.  Most of the time you will not have a set waiter/waitress like you would at a bar in the States.

The Blackfriar is the perfect location for a stop before a Shakespearean Play at the Globe - or if you just happen to be in the neighborhood!  It's super close to the Thames so it's also a great stop if you're taking the Thames Clipper into the city center.
