The Fairy Pools
The Isle of Skye has a few places that are named after fairies or other mythical folklore characters. One of the fairy-named places is The Fairy Pools.
It’s one of those places that just feels magical.
The Pools are part of the River Brittle and are at the foot of the Black Cuillins. There are strings of crystal clear ponds with waterfalls all the way down the river. You’ll park and hike your way up the pools, making stops along the way to explore each little pool.
The way back to the parking lot is the same route. It’s a relatively easy hike on a gravel path - slightly uphill on the way there.
Do yourself a favor and go as early as possible - you won’t regret a 5am wake up for this one!
The Fairy Pools are one of the most visited attractions on Skye. People come from all over the world to see this place. So, like my suggestion for the Old Man of Storr, your best option for the Pools is to go first thing in the morning. We arrived to the parking lot around sunrise, and we didn’t see another person there until we were on our way out. So we really got to relax, take our time, and enjoy this incredible place without any crowds. Later in the day, it can get extremely crowded. Making parking, hiking and enjoying the scenery much more difficult.
Adventure Always.
